Treatment
Treatment is warranted when a child presents with a speech or language delay/disorder that negatively impacts his or her ability to communicate effectively with others. Our therapists have extensive experience in the treatment of the following conditions:
Articulation and Phonological Delays/Disorders
Receptive and Expressive Language Delays/Disorders
Childhood Apraxia of Speech
Pragmatic Language Delays/Disorders
Fluency Disorders (e.g. Stuttering)
Feeding Disorders
Phonological Awareness Delays
Communication Delays/Disorders Secondary to Autism
Communication Delays/Disorders Secondary to Genetic Disorders and Syndromes (e.g. Down Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome)
Oral Motor Dysfunction
Articulation Disorders Secondary to Craniofacial Abnormalities (e.g. Cleft Palate)
Prior to beginning treatment, one of our therapists, in collaboration with the child’s family or caregiver, will develop specific, measurable goals that will be targeted during therapy sessions. Treatment sessions are then individualized based on the needs of each child and designed to be fun, motivating, and engaging.
As family/caregiver involvement is important to the carryover and generalization of skills worked on during therapy sessions, our therapists will also recommend and discuss activities that can be incorporated into daily routines outside of therapy sessions.
